Libby and Luke hit the waves on White Bear Lake today, with our friend Nancy's kayaks. Dad did some skiing, too, but we think "CC" had the most fun. She found a real buddy in Nancy's dog "Ryder."

On the St. Croix & Mississippi...
Continuing the 4th of July weekend with a day off from work on Monday, we ventured out on to the St. Croix River, and joined up with the Mississippi at Prescott, Wisconsin, just down river from Hastings. We went all the way to Red Wing, Minnesota, 26 miles downstream - and even went through a huge lock, to be deposited 8 feet lower on the Mississippi... Here are the crew holding us to the side of the lock as the water drained out!

Smoke on the Water!
Happy Independence Day everyone! We watched the fireworks on the water this year! Our little boat joined the vast fleet on White Bear Lake at 10:00 pm sharp. We were treated to a beautiful half-hour display, and were reminded that sound travels really well over the water!

Bald Eagle for the Fourth!
We ventured to the cabin for the fourth of July weekend and were treated to a rare and exciting sight. A huge bald eagle was perched in the tree right in front of the cabin! He sat there for almost an hour to mark Independence Day weekend for us! (See the red highlight in the picture to the left - and a closeup photo below).
The kids enjoyed tubing, fishing, games, great food and playing with their cousins. Libby got up on skis again, and we couldn't get her off! She skied four times, and never fell. Now she is hot-dogging it, with one hand and funky moves. Time to remove the tie-bar, Libby!
